INDA rebrands \u201cNonwovens\u201d to \u201c Engineered Material Solutions \u201d. New tagline better defines the dynamic technology-based industry to attract young talent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

INDA<\/a>, the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry, has launched a rebranding initiative to strengthen recognition of the nonwovens <\/a>industry as a stand-alone, vibrant, attractive sector for\u00a0up-and-coming professionals to help companies recruit new talent, and also to lay the foundation for fairer treatment in tariff and trade areas.<\/p>\n

To better reflect the dynamic, technology-based nature of the industry, INDA has launched a new tagline of \u201cAdvancing Engineered Material Solutions,\u201d which appears under its logo.<\/p>\n

In addition to the tagline, the initiative includes a video that positions \u201cnonwovens\u201d as \u201cengineered materials\u201d and highlights the breadth of nonwoven applications; a new Academic Outreach Initiative to attract young talent to the industry; and is working with EDANA, the European nonwovens association, to secure approval for a new definition of nonwovens through the International Standards Organization (ISO).<\/p>\n

\u201cThese three initiatives are critical to ensure our industry is properly recognized, attractive to newcomers and defined as being independent from textiles to enable fair tariff treatment,\u201d said INDA President Dave Rousse.<\/p>\n

Refined Definition More Clearly States What Industry Is About\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This growing global industry produces high-performing versatile products that cost-effectively deliver features such as acoustic insulation, thermal protection, absorbency, filtering, liquid repellency, or flame retardancy that solve many problems. Examples include diapers, absorbent hygiene products, surgical drapes, cleaning wipes, automotive parts, and liquid and air filters, among many others that are essential to daily living.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur industry has traditionally defined itself by what it is not \u2013 which is a woven, knitted or converted product,\u201d Rousse said. \u201cSome of our members are adopting more modern phrases to describe themselves, including engineered materials, performance materials and fiber-based specialty materials.\u00a0 We support this language refinement as we try to distinguish ourselves from textiles and instantly connect with those not familiar with our business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recognizing that young new talent is critical to sustain its growth, the association is positioning the industry in a new, dynamic way so people instantly understand what it does.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe term \u2018engineered materials\u2019 is a far more comprehensible concept to provide the clarity needed to connect with today\u2019s up-and-coming professionals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The tagline was developed as part of the Academic Outreach Initiative led by INDA\u2019s new Assistant Director of Career Services. The initiative supports members recruiting on college campuses by providing information on what the industry does, the products it produces or contributes to, the prospects for continued growth, jobs in it, and potential hiring companies.<\/p>\n

Video and Standard Rework\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Along with the new tagline, INDA produced a one-minute video (www.inda.org) that conveys the contemporary, forward-looking nature of the industry in a manner that appeals to young professionals.<\/p>\n

A third component of the rebranding of nonwovens is the soon-to-be-changed official ISO definition of nonwovens that forms the basis of the Harmonized System of tariffs and underpins trade agreements. The current ISO definition states that nonwovens are \u201cstructures of textile materials.\u201d\u00a0 The proposed new definition calls nonwovens \u201cprimarily fibrous assemblies,\u201d a more general approach that enables tariff treatment separate from that of textiles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
