Among the products in the original St\u00e4ubli MC4 connector portfolio that are valid in this context are; MC4 (R60127190), MC4-Evo2 (R60127169), PV-ADXP4-S2 (R60127181), PV-ADX4-Evo (R60127171), PV-AZX4-Evo2 (R60149724). T\u00dcV Rheinland has also verified the suitability of these types for use at elevations of up to at least 4000 m above sea level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St\u00e4ubli <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/en\/category\/green-times\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Renewable Energy<\/a>, Senior Consultant Product Regulatory Affairs Guido Volberg said; \u201cWe are very pleased to be the world\u2019s first manufacturer of PV connectors to meet this requirement. However, requirements for operating electrical installations at ambient temperatures above 70\u00b0C or altitudes higher than 6,500 feet differ from the requirements for standard installations due to the different climate conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The worldwide expansion of PV installations is also giving rise to the emergence of new application areas in challenging environmental conditions. The fact that approximately 35% of the Earth\u2019s land surface is covered with deserts leads people to the efficient use of these areas, which otherwise have low economic potential and are unpopulated. Examples are the installation of PV solar power plants in hot and dry deserts in South America, Africa, Southern Europe and the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas at high elevations also show significant potential for solar energy production. PV plants in these regions produce about 50% more energy than those at sea level thanks to their high elevation. The extremely high levels of solar radiation and consistently clear skies provide optimal conditions for high electricity yields. Europe\u2019s high Alpine regions are not the only candidate areas for these types of plants; an increasing number of PV plants are being built in the Andes range in South America at altitudes of over 6,500 feet above sea level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/staubli-detail-2-1068x601.jpg 1068w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption>St\u00e4ubli PV connectors were verified for climate conditions up to at least 105\u00b0C and at elevations of at least 4000 m above sea level.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-safety-standards-at-high-temperatures\">Safety standards at high temperatures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of this market development, the Technical Committee TC82 of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) will more carefully distinguish the requirements for different ambient temperature ranges and prepare the new edition of safety standards for PV modules, IEC 61730-1, for applications at operating temperatures of up to 70\u00b0C. For applications at higher operating temperatures, such as installations in desert regions, the specifications of IEC TS 63126 will apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IEC TS 63126 identifies thermal requirements not only for PV modules but also for added components like PV junction boxes or PV connectors, for two different temperature levels. The two categories for these modules are: temperature level 1: greater than or equal to 80\u00b0C, temperature level 2: greater than or equal to 90\u00b0C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Section 6.3 of this technical specification lists the requirements for PV connectors according to IEC 62852 for use at the module temperature levels described. The connectors\u2019 upper limiting temperatures (ULT) are required to have the following minimum values: ULT for connectors used for installation of level 1 PV modules: at least 95\u00b0C, ULT for connectors used for installation of level 2 PV modules: at least 105\u00b0C .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-safety-standards-at-high-elevations\">Safety standards at high elevations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The requirements for insulation coordination in the safety standards for electrical products are usually designed for applications at altitudes up to 6,500 feet. For applications at higher elevations, the requirements for clearances must be corrected because the lower air pressure reduces the electrical installations\u2019 resistance to voltage flashover across the clearance.
