{"id":63480,"date":"2026-01-06T15:39:03","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T12:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/?p=63480"},"modified":"2026-01-06T15:39:10","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T12:39:10","slug":"heavy-rainfall-in-the-aegean-cuts-cotton-output-expectations-by-15-percent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/en\/heavy-rainfall-in-the-aegean-cuts-cotton-output-expectations-by-15-percent\/","title":{"rendered":"Heavy rainfall in the Aegean cuts cotton output expectations by 15 percent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a written statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/itb.org.tr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u0130zmir Commodity Exchange<\/a> (\u0130TB) Board Chair I\u015f\u0131nsu Kestelli said that additional field surveys were carried out across the Aegean in November to assess the extent to which rainfall disrupted the cotton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textilegence.com\/en\/category\/topical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harvest<\/a> and to identify the negative impacts of extreme weather events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kestelli noted that efforts to determine cotton cultivation areas in the Aegean and to estimate production volumes were conducted under the coordination of \u0130TB, in cooperation with the \u0130zmir Chamber of Commerce, Aegean Exporters\u2019 Associations, the commodity exchanges of Manisa, Ayd\u0131n and S\u00f6ke, Tari\u015f Cotton and Oil Seeds Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union, and Ege University\u2019s Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Soil Science. She recalled that at a meeting held on 8 October 2025, they announced the Aegean\u2019s expected cotton output at 160,000 tonnes, and added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBased on consultations with producers, ginning plants and other industry stakeholders operating across the region, as well as field inspections, it was determined that rainfall during the harvest period led to losses in both yield and quality. Prior to the rainfall, only about 15% of the cotton harvest had been completed, while the remaining 85% was adversely affected by the rains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-quality-losses-observed-in-cotton-harvested-after-rainfall\">Quality losses observed in cotton harvested after rainfall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u015f\u0131nsu Kestelli emphasized that heavy rainfall increased soil moisture levels and disrupted the field conditions required for harvesting.
