Ekoten Tekstil, a subsidiary of Sun Tekstil, was deemed worthy of an award in the “Innovation – Wastewater Recovery” category at the 2025 Just Style Excellence Awards. The project’s performance results were also verified by TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM).
As a result of the company’s 45-day pilot implementation, more than 48,000 m³ of wastewater was treated and reused. In this way, approximately 65% of the dyehouse’s daily water demand was met from recovered water. Ekoten aims to increase the recovery rate to over 90% by the end of 2025 and to achieve the goal of zero wastewater discharge in the medium term. Along with wastewater recovery, the use of environmentally friendly treatment methods without chemicals prevents pollutants such as alkalinity, COD, BOD, suspended solids, and oil-grease from being released into nature.
“We aim to inspire the textile industry”
Commenting on the award, Aydın Öztürk, General Manager and Member of the Board of Ekoten, said that as Ekoten, they aim to inspire the textile industry with a production approach based on the circularity of water. He continued his words as follows: “Our wastewater recovery project strengthens not only our environmental performance but also our resource efficiency. This award is an indication that our approach, which places innovation at the center of sustainability, is recognized internationally. Through this project that we developed in collaboration with a biotechnology start-up, we contribute to the sharing of sectoral knowledge. At the same time, we have implemented various internal communication and training projects to increase employee awareness and make sustainability consciousness an integral part of our corporate culture.”
