Supported under the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme, the “GreenTEX – Sustainable Textile Skills for the Future” project is being implemented through the strategic partnership of Germany, Italy (ETN School), and Ege University. The project seeks to develop green skills in the textile industry and modernize vocational education curricula with a focus on sustainability. The kick-off meeting was hosted by the project coordinator, Hochschule Niederrhein University.
At the meeting, project partners discussed key issues in detail, including project objectives, the work plan, task allocation, and timelines. Decisions were also taken on quality assurance, risk management, and dissemination activities, while concrete steps were made toward the design of training content. Communication channels and collaborative platforms were also established to ensure efficient implementation and to formalize the cooperation process.
Rector of Ege University, Musa Alcı, congratulated the team leading the multinational project and wished them success.
GreenTEX project to contribute to sustainable textile production
Evaluating the GreenTEX project and its future vision, project coordinator Sevda Altaş, a faculty member at Ege University Emel Akın Vocational School, said:
“With our GreenTEX project, we aim to strengthen circular economy approaches in the textile sector and promote environmentally friendly production practices by expanding green skills in vocational education. Under the coordination of Hochschule Niederrhein in Germany, and in collaboration with our Italian partner, we have embarked on this journey with great enthusiasm to develop innovative outputs across a wide range of areas, from sustainable production to digital learning content.”
Altaş stated that throughout the project, pilot trainings, digital storytelling, and infographic competitions will help transform academic knowledge into sectoral awareness. She added that an upcycling workshop hosted by the university will bring practical skills in this field to an international level.
“Ultimately, with the final conference to be held in Italy and a fashion show showcasing upcycled products—the tangible outcomes of our project—we aim to make a pioneering contribution to sustainable textile production across Europe,” she added.
