Nunatak Teknik Tekstil ve Dış Ticaret AŞ, a company founded by Turkish female entrepreneur Fatma Şahin İşler that produces high-value-added technical textile goods and military equipment, receiving increasing demand from abroad for the equipment it produces as a result of its R&D studies. The company, which shifted its production range to technical textiles and military equipment approximately 10 years ago, offers a wide range of products, from sleeping bags to cold weather clothing, tactical clothing to waterproof and breathable clothing, and military uniforms. Nunatak recently showcased its R&D-developed knife-resistant and flame-retardant tactical suit for the first time at the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) held at the Istanbul Fair Center.
“We produce cooling clothing for Qatar and protective clothing against the cold for Norway”
Fatma Şahin İşler, founder of Nunatak Teknik Tekstil ve Dış Ticaret AŞ, explained in a statement to AA that they took an important step 10 years ago by transferring their 30 years of experience in textile production to the military sector. “We are a company that works with the military and army both domestically and internationally, develops a wide range of products, collaborates with local and foreign customers as well as European armies, and also serves our own army,” said İşler, emphasizing that they have developed numerous products. “We conduct R&D, and our motivation in product development is truly our own army and soldiers. First and foremost, we strive to ensure our own soldiers have the best equipment, but we also provide the products we develop for our own army to foreign countries,” she continued.
İşler noted that they specialize in products developed for use in different climates, saying that they target a wide range of countries, from very hot countries to very cold regions. Explaining that they produce cooling clothing for Qatar and cold-protective clothing for Norway and Sweden, she said that they aim to offer solutions for all climates.
Mass production of the tactical suit will begin soon
Regarding the tactical suit they first introduced at the IDEF 2025, Fatma Şahin İşler said, “It’s the first of its kind in Türkiye, and I do not know if there is anything like it in the world. It is a suit that looks more civilian but has all the features you need for tactical purposes,” and shared the technical details of the product:
“You can’t tell by looking at it from the outside, but the fabric is fireproof and there is a middle layer that is resistant to knife attacks. You can attach magazines to the jacket. It has a specially designed pattern so that the weapon is not visible when attached. There is a space for the magazine inside. There is a Faraday cage on both sides of the jacket. For example, you are going to a meeting or a private conversation. During that conversation, you can completely block the signal by placing your cell phone inside. It also helps you create a safe space for yourself. We use a special fabric to protect you from flames and fire until you reach a safe area in case of an explosion or fire.”
She noted that they have obtained all production and quality certificates for the tactical suit and will soon begin mass production, adding that there is significant demand, particularly from executives abroad.
İşler stated that they are suppliers to very important institutions and organizations in Türkiye, primarily the Turkish Armed Forces, and that they have distributors in countries such as Germany, Norway, Poland, and Italy abroad, working with many countries and exporting to around 15 countries.
