Textile finishing is the process in which the properties such as the stability and the touch to obtain the woven or knitted fabrics are made suitable for the end use. Purification of external materials and chemicals applied for the weaving process (desizing), shrinkage gaining such as fastness, and dyeing of the fabric is included in this process. The printing of fabric is also at the end of this process.
The whole process can be listed as follows; pre-treatment, colouring, dyeing, printing, finishing (mechanical and wet). Pre-treatment; which is the preparation for the process and provides removal of impurities in the product; is very important. Almost all textile materials go through pre-treatment. Gazeing, desizing, hydrophilization, bleaching and mercerization steps are carried out through pre-treatment.
At the centre of the process is the stenter machine. These machines, where shrinkage is provided to fabrics, provide stretch drying. Dyeing is the final stage of finishing. The most important machine in dyeing is the dye padder. Due to developing technologies, digital printing is now considered a different main topic.
