Knitted fabrics, which provide more flexible size stability, softness and fullness than other textile surfaces, are amongst the leading textile surfaces nowadays as they were in the past. The spinning of yarns individually or collectively into loops through needles and auxiliary tools, and forming the side-to-side and longitudinal connections is called knitting.
The fastest way the fabric surface is formed by knitting, which diversifies into weft and warp knitted. The formation of the surface by connecting the loops in the transverse direction in accord to a single yarn feeding system is called weft knitted. While, and the formation of the surface by connecting the loops in the longitudinal direction in accord to a multi-thread feeding system is called warp knitted. The main feature of this system is that the yarn is moving while the needles are stationary. Warp knitted fabrics can be as stable as woven fabrics, as well as flexible as weft knitted fabrics.
The technology can be defined as flat knitted and circular knitted. A wide or narrow fabric tube is formed on circular knitting machines; where the needles are arranged side by side and in a circular needle bed. The main element here is that the weft knitting is based on the lock assembly; the rotating needles are moved up and down. For flat knitting machines, needles are moved individually. Thus, the process is performed by forming a loop with a single yarn system.
Mayer & Cie., Terrot and Monarch are very popular technology brands in circular; Karl Mayer, Saurer Embroidery and Shime Seiki brands are quite strong in flat; while Electro-Jet, Groz-Beckert, Memminger-IRO and Mesdan brands stand out in the preparation and feeding systems related to the knitting process.
