US-based textile brand HercLéon has captured the functional fabrics spotlight with the fifth iteration of its flagship t-shirt, the HercShirt V5.0. Officially launched for pre-orders on Kickstarter between July 8 and August 19, 2026, the campaign raised over $320,000 from backers worldwide. With shipments scheduled to begin in November 2026, the company claims the shirt can be worn for more than 30 days without developing odor or requiring frequent washing.
At the heart of the product’s performance is an integrated odor-management system woven directly into the yarn and fabric structure. According to the company’s statement, the fabric incorporates copper, silver, zinc, gold, and volcanic ash, along with two proprietary components that remain undisclosed.
A multi-layered defense against odor
In textiles, unpleasant odors aren’t caused by sweat itself, but by bacteria metabolizing the compounds within sweat. HercLéon’s design strategy centers on preventing, slowing, and absorbing bacterial growth.
In the first stage, moisture is wicked away from the skin using fibers like lyocell, micromodal, and viscose before bacteria can break it down, aiming to prevent the environment that triggers odor formation.
In the second stage, components such as copper, silver, zinc, and vitamin E come into play. The company states that these materials help slow down bacterial activity and limit replication for any microbes that manage to latch onto the fabric.
In the third stage, coconut charcoal, volcanic ash, and plasma-modified fibers are used to absorb any odors that may develop. HercLéon notes that thanks to this multi-layered system, its approach to odor control relies not only on antimicrobial action, but also on moisture management and odor absorption mechanisms.
A growing trend in functional textiles
The buzz surrounding the HercShirt V5.0 extends beyond its ability to go weeks without a wash. The product serves as a prime, commercialized example of broader trends sweeping the textile industry: odor control, extended lifespan, and reduced wash cycles.
Next-generation functional textiles—particularly in travel, outdoor, and performance activewear—frequently leverage silver ions, copper-based technologies, mineral-infused fibers, and advanced moisture management. HercLéon claims to consolidate these distinct approaches into a single product.
Positioned at the top of the line, the HercShirt Max—featuring all seven odor-fighting components—retails at $79. The lineup also offers options at varying price points: the HercShirt Standard (featuring four components) is priced at $69, while the HercShirt Budget (featuring a single component) comes in at $39.
