The new-generation spinning concept POY 2.0, first presented by Barmag to a selected group of experts at ITMA Asia + CITME 2025, attracted interest from yarn producers worldwide. Developed by the company for the production of partially oriented yarn (POY), the solution is designed as a system that readdresses POY production in terms of technology and economic performance.
During the development of the new POY 2.0 spinning concept, Barmag engineers conducted a comprehensive analysis of the entire process chain, from spinning to winding. As a result of this work, core components were optimized, energy efficiency was improved, and operating processes were simplified.
Optimized DIO spin pack
The new-generation of DIO spin pack has been optimized in terms of its rheological properties and developed to ensure more homogeneous filament quality. Thanks to the more compact design, the requirement for filter sand is reduced by approximately one third, while the weight of the component is lowered by more than 30 percent. This design change reduces material consumption while also facilitating handling and maintenance processes.
Changes made in the design of the spinning beam reduce the surface area, enabling energy savings of up to 10 percent.
Higher process stability with EvoQuench 2.0
The EvoQuench radial quenching unit, which ensures uniform cooling of the filaments, remains one of the key components of the process. In the new EvoQuench 2.0 version, adjustment of the convergence length has been made easier. The more accessible control structure shortens setup times while also reducing the amount of waste generated.
WINGS POY 2.0: automated string-up and lower waste rate
At the center of the new spinning line is the WINGS POY 2.0 winder. For the first time, the machine features an automatic string-up function. This feature helps keep string-up times short while supporting a reduction in waste quantities in the long term. At the same time, it allows the number of personnel required in the take-up section to be reduced.
The new active quick return system facilitates the adjustment of product-specific parameters, particularly in production environments with high product variety and frequent product changes. The system also improves bobbin formation and prevents yarn ends from protruding. Additional shielding developed for the bobbin holder and bobbins prevents the formation of fluff and contributes to maintaining a stable yarn path.
The new yarn end fixation system further increases process reliability. Eliminating loose yarn ends helps prevent unplanned machine downtime due to faulty sensor signals in subsequent automated logistics processes. The optimized XPT housing, developed with a larger rotor stroke extends the parking time and provides greater flexibility during the doffing process. These improvements enhance the overall operating stability and productivity of the system.
Digitally networked with atmos.io
The POY 2.0 system operates fully integrated with the atmos.io digital platform. Through various applications, operators can monitor the entire production process from polymer to finished yarn. Quality parameters are continuously tracked, allowing rapid intervention when necessary. This structure enables the reduction of waste quantities and supports digital monitoring of the production process.
