The new-generation Open-End spinning facility established in Diyarbakır by Kahramanmaraş-based İSKUR Holding will have a total capacity of 14,688 rotors and a daily production capacity of 150 tonnes. With the investment process nearing completion and trial production successfully underway, the facility is planned to reach full capacity in the fourth quarter of 2026. With this capacity, the plant is expected to become one of the world’s largest Open-End spinning facilities under a single roof. Once the investment is completed, İSKUR Holding’s total daily yarn production capacity will increase to 300 tonnes.
İSKUR Holding Deputy Chair of the Board İsmail Kurtul highlighted the company’s long-standing commercial ties with the region when explaining the reasons behind choosing Diyarbakır for the investment. Kurtul stated that İSKUR has been trading cotton fibre with the region for nearly 50 years, adding that strong business relationships, proximity to raw materials, labour potential, government incentives and transportation opportunities were key factors in the investment decision.
High automation with a smart factory model
Built on an area of 258 decares, the facility is designed around a smart factory concept, with all processes from production to logistics managed through automation systems. Automated can transport systems, Open-End automated piecing robots, fully automated packaging lines and smart warehouse solutions operate as an integrated system.
Thanks to its high level of automation, the facility enables digital management of production processes, aiming to set a new benchmark in terms of efficiency, quality and traceability. The factory also features AI-supported analysis systems, smart camera solutions and area scanning technologies to digitally manage both operational and production safety.
Renewable energy investments continue
Stating that İSKUR has viewed textiles and energy as two complementary strategic fields since its foundation, Kurtul said: “We started our energy investments with a self-generation licence in the early years. Later, we increased our production capacity with hydroelectric power plants. Over the past decade, we have shifted our focus towards solar and wind energy, significantly expanding our investments in renewable energy.”
Continuing its investments in both textiles and energy, İSKUR Holding currently operates solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 60 MW, including 35 MW ground-mounted and 25 MW rooftop systems. The completion of ongoing solar power projects with a total capacity of 45 MW in Şanlıurfa’s Hilvan and Viranşehir districts is expected to increase the area covered by İSKUR’s solar energy investments to more than 1,000 decares.
