Achieving exports at USD1.1 billion during the first 9 months of 2016, the leather industry welcomes a new exhibition: Alleather – IDF Istanbul Leather Exhibition. Aiming to create added value for the industry and boost exports, the event will take place in Istanbul Expo Center on February 1st – 3th, 2017 with the organization of UBM EMEA (Istanbul) and in collaboration with Leather Association of Turkey (TURDEV).  Turkish Exporters Assembly President, Mehmet Büyükekşi, Leather Association of Turkey (TURDEV) President Kıyasettin Temuçin, UBM EMEA (İstanbul) CEO Serkan Tığlıoğlu as well as association executives and industry representatives from leather and fur industries were ready at a press meeting for the event’s launching.

During his opening speech, TIM President Mehmet Büyükekşi emphasized leather industry as a leader among exporting sectors. Design and innovation are important in competition within leather industry, while the new exhibition will make positive contribution to the industry in this regard. Exports of leather and leather products hit USD1.1 billion during the first 9 months of 2016, while the industry aims for USD5.2 billion for 2023. Büyükekşi stated, “We also aim to raise our market share in global leather trade to 0.9% by 2023. We are aware of the fact that the way of achievement requires innovation, design, Research&Development and Branding.”

TURDEV President Kıyasettin Temuçin commented during his speech, “We aim to unveil Turkey Leather Inventory for global demand as well as to make Istanbul a “Leather Fashion and Trade Hub” of the region and contribute to Turkey’s 2023 plans via our cooperation with UBM in exhibition area.” He further said that Alleather-IDF will provide a fresh dynamism for leather industry, as he believes.

UBM EMEA (Istanbul) President Serkan Tığlıoğlu noted in his presentation that UBM arranges global exhibitions. UBM holds leading fairs of leather industry, namely APLF Leather & Materials Exhibition and ACLE (All China Leather Exhibition) in addition to MAGIC exhibition for textiles. “We aim to contribute to the expansion of leather industry through global markets on a large land from the USA to Russia, EU countries to Africa and Canada, Tığlıoğlu highlighted.

Exhibition Set to Attract 6000 Professional Visitors

250 local and foreign companies are set to participate in the event which will take place between February 1-3, 2017. More than 6000 professionals are expected to visit the exhibition that will be held on a 15.000 meter square area. Companies will display their leather and accessories items, leather accessories, processed leather, leather machines and chemicals as well as particularly leather apparel companies. The event aims to attract purchasing committees from nearly 12 countries via support of the Ministry of Economy.

The world’s leather industry has a trade volume of USD225 billion. Turkey has been the world’s 11th largest exporter amidst a rise in semi-finished and finished leather as well as finished fur exports in the last 15 years. The leather industry is expected to boost its exports to over USD2 billion via strengthening in existing markets and accessing to potential markets with Alleather-IDF.
