Yarn manufacturer OMA Polimer A.Ş. – OMAFIL held the official opening ceremony of its new production facility established in the Erbaa Organized Industrial Zone in Tokat on March 10. Producing for sectors such as socks, narrow weaving, weaving, medical textiles and seamless, the company will manufacture 9,000 tons of POY and 3,000 tons of FDY yarn annually at the plant with the new investment.
“With the POY and FDY yarns we produce today, we aim not only to meet the needs of the domestic market but also to become a strong player in global markets,” said OMAFIL Chairman and ASKON President Orhan Aydın, adding that they will continue to work with all their strength to bring the Turkish textile industry to the level it deserves through a value-added production approach.
OMAFIL established its own production facility with an operational space of 9,000 m² in 2013 to produce covered gimped yarn (twisted with elastane). In March 2021, the company launched a new investment in Tokat–Erbaa with a total area of 50,000 m². The first phase of this investment – a 15,000 m² production facility – was recorded as the largest gimped yarn plant in Europe in its field.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new production facility, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat underlined that they learned industrialism through the food and textile industries, stating: “The textile industry in Türkiye has a history of 130–140 years. With this industry, we opened up to global markets, got to know markets around the world and succeeded in marketing our branded products such as Turkish textiles, Turkish fabrics, Turkish apparel, Turkish carpets and Turkish bedding to the world. Last year, our total exports of apparel, carpets and home textiles reached nearly 31 billion dollars. This accounts for 11 percent of our 273.5 billion dollars in total goods exports.”
Employment for 300 people in Erbaa
Minister Bolat also visited Bozkurt Tekstil, another company operating in Tokat, and received information about its new investments.
Emphasizing that factory openings are taking place while wars continue around the world, Bolat said: “Today we are inaugurating two textile factories. On behalf of our country, our government, and myself, I would like to express our gratitude to the two esteemed families making these investments. They are stepping up and making these investments with their own resources if available, or through external financing when needed.” He added that these investments will provide employment for 300 people in Erbaa.
