The roof organization of retail sector United Brands Association(BMD) made an event called Foreign Expansion Meetings.  More profitable opportunities that retailers can obtain in foreign countries who are experiencing difficult times because of the increasing costs and decreasing profit margins,  were discussed at the meeting. President of  BMD Sinan Öncel who spoke at the meeting stated that 99 firms that are members of the association had more than 2,500 shops in abroad and they aimed to increase this number up to 3 thousand with 500 new stores by the end of this year. Pointing out the problems of retail sector in Turkey, Öncel wished for 18%  VAT  of the rent to be lowered to 8% from the government by complaining about the high rents.

Transformation to branded economy by producing new product that can add value in retail

BMD Board Management Member and Mavi CEO Cüneyt Yavuz pointed out the value raise by kilogram in export. Saying; “We can provide transformation to branded economy by producing new product that can add value; not just by contract manufacturing”, Yavuz  expressed that it should be focused on bigger markets like India.

Saying that they meet customers in 370 thousand squaremeters sales area in 231 cities, LC Waikiki Board Chairman Vahap Küçük stated that they planned to reach total 404 stores in 2017 by opening 82 new stores abroad by the end of the year. Announcing that they will increase the number of countries they took place to 39; by adding Malesia, China, Israel and Malta, Küçük contiued; “By the end of 2018 we will reach 518 stores and 650 stores in 2019. We are planning to reach 1000 stores in abroad by the end of 2020. We will gain 60% of the slaes from our stores in abroad and 40% of sales from Turkish stores. ”

Orka Holding Board Chairman Süleyman Orakçıoğlu expressed that Damat, Tween and D’S Damat took place in more than 70 countries; with brands and stores. Orakçıoğlu stated that ready-wear export in Turkey occurs in 23-24 dollar value by kilogram; while they reach to 100-110 dollar value.

General Manager of Torunlar GYO taking place in Mall of Istanbul successfully;  İlham İnan Dündar said that they obtained 21% turnover raise in the first quarter.
